Barney Webb, 85, passed away on June 25, 2022. A visitation will be held at O’Leary Funeral Home in Norwalk, IA on Thursday, June 30, from 4 to 7:00 PM. A graveside service will be held at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Orilla, IA on Friday, July 1, at 10:00 AM.
Barney was born on October 18, 1936, to Homer and Annie Webb, in Cumming. He was the third youngest of 10 siblings. He graduated from Norwalk High School in 1955 where he met Frankie Dougherty, his future wife, and they married in 1957. Barney worked briefly in Newton, at Maytag, in the assembly line before going to trade school at the Des Moines Comprehensive Vocational Facility as a meat cutter in 1968. He went to work in Des Moines at the Iowa Meat Packing House until the early 70’s when it closed. He then found a job with Smith Meats, in Orilla, where he retired from when it closed, now known as “The Chicken” restaurant. He liked playing horseshoes, card games, watching the NASCAR races, eating homemade ice cream and cherry pies, and spending time with his family riding motorcycles and family vacations out west. He will be remembered for his greatness, humbleness, kindness, and giving heart. He never argued with anyone even when he did not agree with them.
Barney is preceded in death by his parents, Homer, and Annie; brothers, Bill, Earl, Jim, and Chuck; and sisters, Alice Clearwater, Theresa Herrick, and Mick Slater.
Barney is survived by his wife, Frankie; daughters, Tammy, and Kimberly (Chuck) Tibben; and sisters, Anna Jordison and Dorothy Dawson.
