Carl Eugene Graham, 87, passed away after a brief illness on November 2, 2024. Carl was born in Des Moines, Iowa on July 3, 1937, to Lois Steele (nee: Decker) and Marsh Graham. In July 1954, he joined the United States Marine Corp, served 4 years, attained the rank of Corporal and was stationed in Camp Pendleton, California and Okinawa, Japan. Carl married Roberta (Bobbie) Green on April 5, 1957, and they were together 52 years until her passing in 2009. Carl worked at Armstrong Tire in Des Moines until he retired after 31 years of employment. He recently said that he’d been retired longer than he worked at Armstrong. Carl loved sports, he played softball and used to bowl and golf several times a week over the years.
Carl is survived by his three daughters, Robertta (Robbie) Monahan(Jeff), Carla Ralph (Jim) and Jolene Hutchinson (Norman); nine grandchildren, Becky Boodry, Jennifer Houck, Martin(Moose) Monahan, Jacob West, Joshua West, Courtney Ralph, Jenni Ralph, Teddy Hutchinson and Amanda Deaton; 21 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and siblings Robert Graham, Margo Klein, Kay Doolittle, Tim Graham, Floyd Steele and Ramona Rigik. He is preceded in death by his wife, Bobbie, parents, several siblings and his great grandson Landin Houck.
Visiting time for Carl will be held at Sunset Memorial Chapel (7601 Fleur Drive, Des Moines, IA 50321) on Monday, November 11th at 1:00PM. Following the visit there will be a graveside service at Sunset Memorial at 2:30PM.
