Claude Jr. Brummett (Junior) was born in Mercer County, MO. The son of Claude and Maggie (Foglesong) Brummett on August 27, 1931. He attended rural Mercer County schools graduating from Ravana High School in 1949. Junior was drafted into the Army in 1952, serving in the Korean conflict, as a heavy equipment operator. He was discharged in 1954. He returned to Mercer, MO. and married Claudean Alley. Two daughters were born to this union Kathy and Connie. The family farmed in Mercer prior to moving to Iowa. Junior graduated from Indian Hills Community College in 1968, with a degree in Farm Machinery Mechanics. Junior was employed at Kemin Industries as a Production Supervisor in the hardware department for 25 years, retiring in January of 1994. Claudean passed away in 1976.
In 1978 Junior married Melba Schroder Korte. The couple resided in Des Moines prior to moving to Monroe. Junior and Melba have been married 42 years. Together they have a blended family of 4 children, 10 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and 1 great, great grandson. Junior and Melba traveled the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. They belonged to several camping clubs, making new friends along the way. Junior was an avid reader, reading every western he could get his hands on. He loved spending time with all the kids, hunting, fishing and camping.
Junior joined the American Legion Post 0477 in Mercer Mo. in 1954. He was also a member of the Monroe United Methodist Church.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Melba, Daughter Kathy (Ivyl) Ransom of Truro, Lynn(Paul) Pendroy of Monroe, Grandchildren Jeremy (Brandi) Ransom, Ryan (Denise) Ransom both of Truro, Deana (Tim) Webb of Butler, MO., Gabe (Debbie) Korte, Melisssa (Larry) Thompson both of Des Moines, Jennifer (Mark) Thompson of New Baden, IL., Jacob(Angie) Clark of Monroe, James (Stephanie) Clark of Prairie City, and Paula (Gerrhartt) Vander Hart, and Vance Pendroy of Monroe. Great Grandchildren Kelsi, Averi, Jackson and Jacob Ransom, Madelyn Webb, Cayla Elefson, Nathan and Chance Korte, Alle and Gage Thompson, Kaden, Kolby, Piper and Emily Clark, Hannah Thompson, Kinlee and Trucker Vander Hart, Landon Penddroy.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, wife Claudean, daughter Connie Brummett, son Lleroy Korte grandson Travis Clark, two sisters, Opal Ragan and Pauline Nelson, Brother-in-law Deane Ragan.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, November 20, 2020 one hour before services at Sunset Memorial Garden, 7601 Fleur Drive, Des Moines, IA. The service is at the Gravesite
Memorials may be given to Monroe Fire and Rescue, Monroe United Methodist Church or Monroe Library.
