Daniel James Miller
September 22, 1958 – October 1, 2020
Daniel J Miller of Grimes Iowa passed away Thursday October 1st, 2020 at home surrounded by family. Dan was born in Des Moines to James and Catherine Miller, and grew up in a large family, being the 3rd of 4 children. He attended Hoover High School, graduating class of 1977. He then went on to attend the University of Northern Iowa, and ultimately transferred to the University of Iowa, with a degree in marketing.
Dan held management positions in many companies throughout his career including Swift packing company, Dunham’s Sporting Goods, Younker’s, and Von Maur. Dan married Beth Johnson in 1986 and had two children. They were married for 22 years.
Dan enjoyed being involved with his children’s sports while they grew up, including baseball, basketball, and volleyball. Often coaching on the teams his children were on.
Perhaps the role Dan most enjoyed was being a grandfather. He doted on his 4 grandchildren, maintaining an active role in each of their lives. His children and grandchildren could always count on his help and support throughout his life.
Dan will always be remembered for his quick wit, sense of humor, and the love he had for all his family and friends.
