October 21, 1935 – November 21, 2024
Duane "Squeak" Parkins, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, went home to be with the Lord on November 21, 2024, passing away peacefully in his sleep. He was 89 years old.
Born on October 21, 1935, in Winterset, Iowa, Duane was the son of Pearl and Katie Parkins.
In 1957 Squeak married Norma after being together for 4 years. He started his career working at Brady Manufacturing, where he stayed for 28 years. In that time, they had one son Rusty. Squeak finished his career at Cretex Retiring at the age of 67. He loved his John Deere Tractors, his snowmobile trips, mule riding, hunting, and fishing trips with the guys. He enjoyed pulling skiers with his boat, the car shows with his antique cars, always ready for a shot of fire ball (which he called powerball), and always ready to take grandma for a good dance. Squeak made sure to spoil his grandkids always having a good excuse to go to the store daily. He loved shopping and giving to those close to him. Anything anyone wanted or needed he would get. He loved going out to eat with his whole family, many times 2-3 times a week, always saying that’s some good “blank” after taking his first bite. He truly knew how to make everyone smile and feel loved. He will be missed but he was a believer, so we know he is now with God.
Duane is survived by his loving wife of many years, Norma; his son Rusty and daughter-in-law Helen; his cherished grandchildren, Tanner and Kelsey (Marran Jackson); and his great-grandchildren, Alice and Nova. He is also survived by his sister Mary Klug (Keith Klug).
Duane was preceded in death by his parents, Pearl and Katie Parkins; his brothers Darrell and Bill; and his sister Reva.
A visitation to honor Duane's life will be held at Sunset Memorial Chapel, 7601 Fleur Drive, Des Moines, Iowa, 50321, on Monday, November 25th, at 5 PM. A funeral service will take place on Tuesday, November 26th, at 1 PM, also at Sunset Memorial Chapel.
A special thank you to Grandma for taking care of Grandpa. Grandpa touched many lives in his time, he was always ready for a party or a good time. He showed his family, especially his grandchildren, what life was about and how much he loved every one of them. Grandpa will be missed, and he is loved so deeply.
