Gerald "Jerry" Barnett Jr.

Updated: Jun 21, 2024

It is with great sadness that the family of Gerald “Jerry” Barnett Jr. announce that he ended a long battle with liver cancer and liver disease on June 17, 2024.

Gerald was kindhearted and a giver, he cared deeply about his family, friends and pets.

Gerald enjoyed many things such as mowing lawns with his Grandpa Gage, playing games and in the timber with his sister Tammy. He also was an avid disc golf player with many people, but the special ones were his brother Rodney, brother-in-law Jerry, best friends Ed Powell and John Kruger along with other family members.

He enjoyed relaxing on a riverbank with his family and friends, nothing better than catching a good catfish. He bowled league for many years with his dad, brother and close friends.

He was the video game king, was better than anyone on the wrestling game. He loved to relentlessly slam anyone that dared to play with him. He spent countless weekends playing video games with his nephew William, those were special times.

He had movie nights with his niece Jessica and her husband Zach, this was a weekly ritual that they all enjoyed.

WWE wrestling was number one for him, he enjoyed this with family and friends. Never missed a show and verbally got involved. Went to live events with family, some of the best days of his life.

He loved his cats very much; they were his children. His mother was most special to him, he loved her more than anything. He missed his father deeply, and cherished the time he did have with him.

Gerald leaves behind his Mother Bonnie Barnett, Sister Tammy Green (Jerry), Brother Rodney Barnett (Kelly), Nieces Jessica Glenney (Zach) and Lily Barnett, Nephews William Green and Dustin Barnett, Aunt Cindy Laurie and his cats Lucky and Shadow.

Gerald’s visitation will be on June 24th from 4-7 pm, and celebration services will be Tuesday June 25, 2024, at 1pm. The service will be officiated by Pastor David Brown. Both events will be held at Sunset Memorial Garden, 7601 Fleur Drive, Des Moines.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be directed to his family to go toward a headstone.
