Kenny Ellan Zimmerman, 77, passed away peacefully at his home on October 8, 2024. Born on April 17, 1947, in Des Moines, Iowa, he was the son of Kenneth Arthur Zimmerman and Marjorie Ellen Zimmerman Mefferd (Pannkuk), and the twin brother of Kay Ellan Ridgway (Randy).
On July 8, 1979, Kenny married Thelma, embracing a loving family that included her five daughters: Carolyn “Bookie” Stevenson, Lisa Stevenson, Sherry West, Rhonda West, and Debbie Burriola. Together, they created a vibrant family life filled with love and laughter.
Kenny dedicated over four decades to his craft as the owner of Zimmerman Painting Service, a testament to his work ethic and skill. A proud veteran, he served in the U.S. Army from February 10, 1969, to February 9, 1975, as a wireman in Cambodia and Vietnam. He remained active in his community through organizations such as the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Classic Car Club, Christian Motorcyclists Association, Southgate Mason Lodge #657, and the Zagazig Shrine Clown Unit.
Kenny was known for his larger-than-life personality, often bringing joy to others as “Kazy,” the circus clown. He had a talent for making balloon animals and participated in many parades on his motorcycle. His interests extended to hunting, fishing, gardening, and even making moonshine. A creative spirit, he enjoyed quilting and stained-glass artwork, and he was particularly proud of winning a first-place ribbon for his banana cream pie at the 2007 Iowa State Fair. An avid car enthusiast, he showcased his passion with his award-winning 1934 Ford Coupe V8. Kenny had a passion for cooking.
Kenny is survived by his beloved twin sister, his wife’s children, several grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who will all miss his infectious spirit and warmth. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Larry Zimmerman, his beloved wife, and his stepdaughter Debbie Burriola.
