Maria Luttrell-Murphy, born on November 23, 1963, in Des Moines, Iowa, passed away on October 23, 2024, at Methodist Hospital in Des Moines.
A graduate of Wingfield High School in Jackson, Mississippi, Maria attended Jackson State University before returning to Iowa, where she embarked on a long career in state government. In 2005, she pursued her entrepreneurial dreams by founding Soy Spacasso LLC, a company specializing in soy candles and skincare products. This venture not only brought her immense joy but also took her to exciting events such as New York Fashion Week and spa openings, where she shared her passion with others.
Beyond her career accomplishments, Maria will be remembered for her passion for dancing, traveling on cruises, cooking, enjoying good wine, and nurturing her ponds and garden. She loved spending time outdoors, taking daily walks with her dog, Maxwell, during which she appreciated the beauty of nature and God’s creations. She approached every day with a smile and never hesitated to live life to the fullest.
Maria leaves behind a beautiful legacy in the many lives she touched and the faith that she shared with her close friends and family.
Maria is survived by her husband, Matt, and her son, DeMario. She was preceded in death by her mother, Frances Donaldson.
A celebration of Maria's life will be held at Sunset Memorial Chapel, 7601 Fleur Dr., Des Moines, IA 50321 on November 9th at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a charity of your choice in her honor. Maria's light will continue to shine in the hearts of all who knew her.
