Michael Leroy Mowrey, born November 22, 1952 passed away peacefully March 27, 2022. Michael was born in Des Moines, IA at Broadlawns Hospital to Anna May Waltz and Albert Mowrey, Sr.
Upon graduating from East High School, Michael joined the Job Corps in Colorado to receive a certification as a cook. Michael held numerous dishwashing positions at locations such as Broadlawns Hospital and Perkins, then retiring from Grandma’s Kitchen at the Flying J in Altoona.
In his spare time Michael enjoyed playing bingo, specifically at Meskwaki Bingo Casino, and going to “the show” (the movies). Michael was devoted to his mother and family.
Michael is preceded in death by his parents, Anna May Waltz and Albert Mowrey, Sr. He is survived by his brother, Albert (Elaine) Mowrey, nieces, Renee (Trent) Christensen, Tamara Mowrey and Sarah (Randall) Baber. Along with his great-niece, four great-nephews and great-grand-nephew, Michael is survived also by numerous family and friends.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Sunday, April 10, 2022 at Sherman Odd Fellows Lodge (2340 E. 9th St, Des Moines, IA) at 2pm with refreshments following.
All contributions can be made to Albert Mowrey, Jr and will assist in burial expenses.
