Ray D Smith, age 68, passed away on Sunday, September 1, 2024, in Des Moines, Iowa. Ray was born to parents, Ray and Norma Smith Sr on October 22, 1955, in Iowa.
Ray grew up on the Eastside of Des Moines. He graduated from East High school in 1975. Shortly after graduating he enlisted in the Marine Corp. He spent three years and became a Military Policeman. He was so happy to get out in time to be his brother’s best man. After the Military he went to work as a painter and carpenter. With all his skills and passion for painting he went to work for Merle Hay Mall until he Retired in 2020.
Ray was always willing to help anyone in need rather it was Roofing, Siding, Painting any kind of Carpentry work. There was no job he couldn't do.
His favorite Hobby was fishing. He loved going with Dennis, Ryan, and Sophia, he really loved showing and teaching Sophia how to fish and spending their time together.
Ray had so much love for Sophia, she was his world, there was nothing he wouldn't do for her. Ray loved making her breakfast before school and taking and picking her up from school and teaching her different things.
Ray also loved cooking for his family and spending time with them. He loved to share his love with them.
Ray is survived by his wife, Kathy; and his three children, Mikki, Ryan, Paige; grandchildren, Skylar, Levi, Hayden, Sophia and Adelaida; sisters, Jackie and Kathy; brothers, Roy (Lauretta) and Dennis (Jane). Many nieces and nephews. His best friend Joe Anderson and many friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Norma; dad, John; sisters, Norma and Betty; brother, Roger; and Uncle Billy.
The family would like to thank all that helped with his care.
