Sandra Martinez, 76, of Des Moines, passed away on Tuesday, December 28, 2021, in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loving family.
Sandra Kay Mallory was born on July 22, 1945, in Booneville, Iowa. She was the daughter of Leonard and Mildred (Thompson) Mallory. Sandra attended high school at East High in Des Moines, Iowa. She was united in marriage to James Smith, and he later passed away. Sandra was then united in marriage to Arthur Martinez on December 26, 1981, in Des Moines, Iowa, where they made their home and raised their family. Sandra was a homemaker who always helped others whatever their need might be. She was the best in the kitchen and enjoyed cooking and baking. Sandra also loved her computer games and scrapbooking. But above all, she loved and cared for her family. She had been a member of the Evergreen Church of Christ.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 40 years, Arthur, children, Julie Friedmeyer of Mitchellville, Iowa, Curtis (Anna) Smith of Des Moines, Iowa, Kevin (Kellie) Smith of Des Moines, Iowa, Tina ( Roy) Worthington of Des Moines, Iowa, Adam Martinez of Des Moines, Iowa, Aaron (Heidi) Martinez, Des Moines, Iowa, Grandchildren, Nikki, Lacy, Jacob, Emilee, Sydnee, Alexander, Zachary, Kinnick, Ryan, Samantha, Jake, Amora, Serenity, and Asaiah, and 9, great-grandchildren, siblings, Raymond Mallory, Dean (Virginia) Mallory and Dennis Mallory.
In death, Sandra rejoins her parents, Leonard and Mildred, and siblings, Barbara, Bill, Larry, Theresa, and Thomas.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 21, 2022, at Sunset Memorial Chapel, 7601 Fleur Drive, Des Moines, Iowa 50321, visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place after the service in Sunset Memorial Gardens also at the same address.
Memorials may be directed to the family to help with funeral expenses.
The family would like to invite you to a luncheon back at the funeral home after the interment.
